Our Introduction to the amp
There have been many variations of the AC30, even during the JMI era. This 1965 AC30 Super Twin Top Boost Trapeze head (wow, that’s a mouthful!) features a set of original Woden Transformers that gives it a different tone and feel than the Albion version (as in our copper panel AC30).
It is brighter, but compressed and punchy at the same time. It has a bit more headroom and a tighter sound that lends itself extremely well for nice round cleans, edge of breakup tones and vicious rock riffs.
This is a large set featuring a lot of variations in tone from biring bright to more mellow tones throughout all the usual gain ranges. This is a quintessential VOX AC30 tone right at your fingertips.
The set features 36 full captures that were recorded through the VOX 2X12 cab with Alnico Silver speakers. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.

Everything that jangles and sparkles
I'm a huge AC30 fan, so I had to check this one out despite already owning the Copper Panel "V2" large capture set. I haven't compared the two directly yet, but this new "Grey Panel" capture is excellent! Even the clean captures, which can sound a bit dull or muted in some sets, really come alive here. It can do the classic Liverpool jangle, but also has driven captures that could play across many genres. The brightness of this set is appreciated because Amalgam captures are never lacking for low end, and these really shine through.
