The japanese company Roland went about a mission to create the ultimate clean tone machine and went with a transistor that has remained legendary and among the references for the best clean tones attainable until this day.

It is certainly a different feel and tone if you are used to tube amps. Not better or worse, just different and very, very musical at what it does. Many bands of the 80’s used it for the clean tones across the genres and Metallica were no exception.

The surprising part is that the edge of breakup, crunch tones and sounds with overdrive pedals all sound really good when dieled in in a way that makes the transistor not go crazy and the gainstaging is done in a well balanced way.

The set includes 36 full Tone Models ranging from clean to lead gain levels and featuring various EQ settings per gain level. Please refer to the full list of Tone Models in the product pictures.

Really great sounds

Clean captures of pristine clean sounds. Not many good sounds from the free Tonenet library for the Jazz Chorus 120, and these fill in that hole for me. Amalgam has been my go to for captures it seems, and it will continue to be.

Absolutely wonderful!

Many years ago I bought a JC-120 on Ebay for under 200 dollars. It arrived wrapped in brown paper courtesy of a very puzzled courier. The paper came off, I plugged in, went straight for the chorus switch, and proceeded to bash out a great deal of The Queen is Dead LP by the Smiths. It really did deliver in the clean jangle stakes. What really got me was finding out that I could use the amp as a power amp platform using pedals and a preamp out front and going direct into the power amps. I sold that amp when I moved and it was too big. That was well over a decade and a half ago, and it is one of the few bits of guitar gear I genuinely regret selling. Amalgam have absolutely captured (literally) the essence of what makes for a great JC-120. I am running two instances in stereo with the right amp having the chorus option. Utterly brilliant. The only thing I would request of Amalgam is to please make the speaker IR files available. I would absolutely pay again for those because none of the modellers have captured the JC-120. Even the Fractal version is meh on the FM3.

Exactly what I needed.

Love the JC sound and randomly ran into a 60w model at a studio in October. They let me play it for a few days. Loved it. Coming back home to find Amalgam released their captures I was jazzed (sorry). Sounds so great, exactly what I played in the studio. Great work. Please add DI pack to the line up!
