FNDR BFSR 1965

FNDR BFSR 1965

Price range: 15.00 € through 35.00 €

This 50W class AB 6L6 based circuit is the amp that has defined what is most associated with “american tone”. It is best known for its legendary sparkly and slightly scooped tone, which is instantly recognizable and also works really well with pedals. It gets a nice break-up without the help of pedals and it sounds brighter and a bit scooped compared to the “british tone” camp.

This particular unit is almost 100% original with the exception that 2 of the power supply filtering caps have been replaced. The previous owner had rehoused it into a head, which makes it all the more practical for us.

It has been used by an endless list of artists, some notable names of which would be: Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mike Bloomfied, BB King, Muddy Waters, Robben Ford, Philip Sayce, Dereck Trucks, Ronnie Earl.

The capture set features captures of the Vibrato and Normal channel. The vibrato channel has a mid control and an additional gain stage due to the reverb recovery stage and the normal channel is bigger/fatter sounding.

The DI capture set includes 57 captures of the Vibrato and Normal channel and the following pedals for the drive and lead gain levels: BSB, 808, RAT, PAG, MIN and a KLN clone.

  • 2x 6L6
  • 1x 12AX7
  • 2x 12AT7
  • 3x 7025
  • 1x GZ34
  • Fixed bias
  • Negative Feedback Loop
  • Tube rectifier
  • 50W output

One of the most musical Fender Amp good for almost any kind of guitar

Magic with frequencies and responses. Exactly right amount of all electric guitar pickups spectrum. Great captures!

Now THIS is an amp

Have always loved this amp. Our lead guitarist in a band I was in used have one and I always would ask him if could play it. The V1 captures were very good but V2 sets a new standard. You will get nothing but Blackface Fender goodness from these captures!

Now THIS is Fender tone!

There were three captures that received "V2" upgrades and the upgrade of the Super Reverb is excellent. I remember being very excited seeing the V1 Super Reverb, which was one of Amalgam's early releases. Relative to other captures available at that time, it sounded great, but we have literally THOUSANDS more options here in early 2025. The V2 Super Reverb is a HUGE release with something like 46 captures, including three variations of Tubescreamer captures. If you felt V1 was a little "muffled", V2 has fully corrected that. The Super Reverb can sound "big", but also sparkle at the same time, and this capture is full of classic Fender Blackface tones.

Excellent!

First class Blackface sounds, both clean and overdriven. Sounds great with Stratocaster and Les Paul.

Hail the King

Yep.  Super Reverb pushed into edge is a thing of beauty... use a higher gain capture and clean up with your gtr volume.  Done.  If you have a power amp and a 4x10 cab, do yourself a favor and run one of these DIs into it and turn up.  Bliss.

Not only a clean machine

Awesome edge of breakup tones and saggy, gooey, crunched out tones as well, not only surfey clean stuff.

The Fender BF Profile Standard

I was in-need of a Fender blackface amp profile set that I would use regularly. Out of curiosity, I tried the BFSR profiles by Amalgam. This set is outstanding. There is a realism and dimensionality that many other profiles lack. I’ll mainly use the cleaner profiles, but I’m finding some of the driven sounds to be useful with a Stratocaster and the insertion of an 808 OD. I also purchased the Marshall SL pack. I would think there are more purchases to come. Bring on the Tweed!

Michelle Gillam-Hull

outstanding

I am addicted to tone X captures I have tried at least three other suppliers but in my opinion amalgam audio are by far the best !! They the best in the range of captures you get and in the quality of what you get. They are also hugely helpful when it comes to support. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to other players.

All the sound - none of the drawbacks

I got to play a Super Reverb once. Loved the sound, but it's so big and much too loud to be practical for me.  These captures solve the problem.  They sound so good.  Expansion set next!

Masterful captures - Very satisfying results.

Generally speaking, I'm perfectly happy with the stock amplifiers in the QC, as well as the huge range of free captures that are available. However, after hearing Amalgam Captures on a YouTube video, I thought I'd give their Super Reverb captures a shot. I'm really glad I did. The natural feel and detail of the captures raise the bar to a new level. I also found the collection of EQ'd captures that come in the pack made it much easier for me to get a considerably better fit for an individual mix.

Great black face Fender sound

I really like this set of profiles. It includes both normal and vibrato channels. It ranges from clean to edge of break up crunch drive to solo. It also includes studio liquid profile, and DI liquid profile. For my live use, this would be one set that I would need and not need anything else. I compare this to my best profiles. Compared to M Britt profiles. This is much less compressed, more natural with better dynamics. Karlis definitely knows what he’s doing and his amp is miced perfectly. I also noticed that there are no other gimmicks or adjustments done in terms of definition, clarity and other Kemper adjustments. Most of these are pretty dry without any processing in the Kemper, which to me, speaks even more for the quality of the profiles. Great work!

Very well done

Tonex comes to live with these great captures. Very usable and flexible with the wide spectrum of different gain levels Works very well in band context with power amp and speaker cabinet. Highlight recommended!

An absolute game changer

Black panel super reverb has always been my favorite clean tones and tbh using the quad has made me miss physical amps for the first time in years. Literally as soon as I loaded up the first capture and IR set, that was immediately dismissed. These sound bright, lively, and three dimensional just like the amp I love. If you’re not in love with the Quad yet, this will change your opinion I’m sure.

This is Fender

I was wanting a capture for crystal cleans and this Fender pack had sound I was hearing in my head. These captures are very versatile and take pedals extremely well. From jazz to blues to 80s ballads Amalgamaudio has got you covered with this pack. What pleasantly surprised me were the crunch tones. They simply inspire you for foot stomping rocking out. Definitely got much more than I was expecting to get from the pack.

Excellent!

Out of the 6,000+ captures on ToneHunt.org, I’m so grateful to have discovered Amalgam captures. I was so impressed that I purchased several sets. These are the best and most realistic amp sounds I’ve been able to get in the box by a significant margin. They work great independently, but more important for me is how well they work in the context of a mix. As an audio engineer/mixer, I sometimes get files of poorly recorded amps, so if I'm provided with the guitar DI recordings, these will work beautifully and give me additional options. Even with quality recordings, I would have no reservations about replacing or combining them with Amalgam captures for a different tone. Separately, for my own songs and playing, they pair wonderfully with my Epiphone Casino and Strat. P.S. I forgot to sign in when making my purchase, so I’m unsure if this review will show as a verified purchase, but I assure you I am. I bought 5 Core Captures during the promotion and will purchase the other sets. I highly recommend these. Five stars all the way - thank you, Amalgam, and I look forward to all future releases.

Sounds amazing,

I've been trying it out and it sounds amazing, lots of captures covering all types of tones. The cleans with my strat are the best I've tried. Great job, I need more amps.

If you're drowning in the rising tide of ToneNet free captures, Amalgam Audio's Tonex captures are a life raft. They are full, rich, and provide a range of very usable tones. And if you love the sound of Fender combo amps, this one is a keeper!

A great set of captures

The Super Reverb is on of my favourite amps and this is a great set of captures. As it captured with a 2x12 it sounds more like a Pro Reverb, but that is not a bad thing. Highly recommended if you are into vintage tones.

Top Quality Captures

The captures provided for this amp are unbelievable. You get so many options, all neatly categorised into what we as performing guitarists want. Clean, Crunch, Drive, Dimmed, Edge, and Lead, all carefully dialled in. Add in some amp specfic IR's. On top of this, there is a really helpful PDF with each capture. Tone wise, you couldn't ask for more. The clean captures are beautiful and immediately recognisable as a high end Vintage Fender sound. Then come the incremental gain captures all the way up to some lead sounds that really ring out. I knocked up a full rig in one preset with four of the cpatures, some reverb, delay and a comp on the clean sound. Crystal clear. What's also really helpful is the narrative in the PDF about what has been used. For this Black Face Super Reverb, they've used a single coil as you'd expect but there is a recommendation around db adjustment on the gain input for Humbuckers. I've created two presets for this capture set - one with the normal gain settings for my Suhr Classic S, and a HB preset with reduced gain for my Les Paul Standard. Spend some time dialling in the correct gain and other settings so you can enjoy this on your HB guitars, Overall, it's briliant, and has gone immediately into my live set list.
