PLAYTHROUGH DEMO OF THE CAPTURE SET

Laney amps fly under the radar most of the time. One important and huge exception is Tony Iommi’s use of the Supergroup and pre Supergroup amps with Black Sabbath on recordings that were the cradle for many metal genres to follow.

But here’s the twist! I have never heard the term “Laney clean”, but what i can tell you is that you will be hard pressed to find an amp with better clean and edge of breakup tones than this. Due to the partridge transformers known to be used in Hiwatts and some notable differences to the Marshall Super Leads that inspired these amps, the Laney has a big, open, detailed and bold clean tone that will rival any Hiwatt, Fender or Marshall with ease.

The punch that comes from this amp is simply unreal. The amp is not very bright, but thanks to the punch one can even dial in rather darkish tones and still get away with it because the punchy mids carry a lot of detail and tactile feedback.

It has a very unique and distinct crunch and dimed tone – it is open and extremely punchy and with more gain it becomes very rich in harmonics. It is a complex and musical tone not to be found anywhere else.

The set features 42 full captures of the amp through a vintage 1968 Marshall 4X12 with Celestion G12H30 75Hz speakers. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.

Glad I got this, almost perfect

These captures sound amazing! What would have been perfect would be a capture with the settings Tony Iommi used on the early Black Sabbath albums without a booster built into the capture (for those who have their own). The settings for that would be P10 B0 M10 T10 GI10 GII0 on the bass input

Incredible!

I was looking for a sound for Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath). I am very happy with the sound.

Shocked at how great this was!

I have been up early this morning playing and I had to stop to leave this review. I picked up the Laney captures yesterday. I have never even heard of a Laney amp so this was not on my radar, but I added it in a 5for3 deal to get 5 of the new v2 captures for QC. Wow, just wow. This thing has such a great touch response and dynamic feel it actually altered the way I was playing and just naturally made me play more rhythmically. It can get great edge of breakup up to crunch, and retains this raw sound while at the same time not having the natural distortion and OD drown out the note clarity. This is my new favorite, and I have thousands of paid captures, including at least 30 packs from Amalgam. Thank you Karlis and Fabian for bringing us another great capture set.
