Our Introduction to the amp

This is the amp that shaped modern electric guitar music in a way no other amp has. It is truly the voice of a whole generation and it influenced artists of the 90’s and 2000’s within countless guitar centered genres.

The Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier is a living legend, but especially the Revision F stands as the holy grail for many high gain enthusiasts.

It is notably different from the later Revisions, especially the 3-channel versions in that it exhibits very little of the dreaded fizz that is often hard to dial out from this amp model line.

The REV F easily achieves saturated and defined high gain tones without a pedal, while retaining a big and bold, but at the same time also tight tone – that is a trick that nothing else does quite like it. It strikes a sweet-spot between all of the desirable Dual Rectifier traits.

The amp sounds phenomenal with 6L6 tubes, which is the classic setup, but the red channel with EL34 tubes is nothing short of spectacular as well and our personal favorite.

Due to the plethora of switching options, this set turned out massive with a whopping 56 DI captures that will deliver you many of the tonal shades this amp is capable of – from clean to punishing high gain mayhem. A few captures with a TS808 and a DS-1 are included to complete the picture as this amp just eats pedals for breakfast.

We provide two IR’s of the Mesa 4X12 CAB – one without a High Pass filter, one with a 80Hz High Pass filter.

The set features 56 DI captures of the amp and 2 IR’S of the Mesa Boogie 4X12 CAB with UK made Celestion V30’s. The mics used are 2x Royer R121, a SM57 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.

Not for me.

- lacks true tube power amp interaction and real-time dynamics - feels more like a static snapshot than a living amp - pick attack & transient response noticeably flatter - missing the “pushback” and sag of a real valve circuit - less responsive to volume knob and playing nuance - sounds more compressed and two-dimensional - doesn’t match the depth of a real amp through a reactive load box with IR-based cabinet simulation Conclusion: Good for convenience, but not comparable to a real tube amp + reactive load solution in feel and realism.

Okay, for those who say Amalgam can't do hi-gain, this release should put all that to rest. This capture set provides absolute nostalgic 90s down-tuned ferocity. The Dual Rec absolutely blows the previous Single Rectifier capture out of the water in terms of feel and clarity. Any issues you have with muddy lows or fizzy highs are a result of your cab IR selection. All the right elements are here, you just have to unleash them.. I tried a Rev G capture from another vendor and it was too bloated and compressed for my taste, this Amalgam set is the fix!
