This is easily the single most iconic, musical, beautiful and rare amp in our stable. An original 1967 MRSH aluminium block end chassis JT45/JT50 transition model amp. It has the exact same circuit of the 1966 era JT45, but features transformers later used in the black flag JT50 amps along with the EL34 tubes these were meant to go with instead of the KT66 that came before in the JT45.

As such it truly combines the very best features of JT45 style balanced, round and full tone that can get really smooth and spongy with the massive punch that is attributed to the EL34 based amps, but without any hint of brashness, harshness or hardness that some of the later EL34 based amps tend to.

Along with the JT50 style transformers and the EL34 tubes the amp loses some of the flubbiness that the JT45 style amps tend to – the bass stays together better, is way punchier and more defined, while it also has a bit more clean headroom and more usable crunch even with the volume maxed out. On top of it all it takes pedals even better than the JT45.

Due to this rare combination of almost oxymoron-like qualities and the extreme rarity of its specific circuit (it even still features the JT45 filtering cap values, while most of the JT50 amps have increased filtering) this is the first amp that we gave a name – we refer to it as the Unicorn.

So, how does it sound – dial it up to 6-7 on the High Treble channel and it is instant AC/DC back in Black type crunch for days with a humbucker guitar. Right about that point it will take you together with your Strat to Hendrix land. Though Hendrix used 100W amps, this amp gets a very good approximation of those super punchy big and bold semi-clean tones that Hendrix is known for. Add a fuzz and its a lift-off.

It is hard to list users of this specific model, as it is almost impossible to identify it from others – it looks like a normal JT45 from the outside. The most legendary user of this era of amps however is Angus Young, most prominently on the Back in Black records, which really is a different sound from a typical JT45. You can get JMP bass spec sounds from it in the style of Duane Allman and punchy Hendrix style semi clean and overdriven tones.

We encourage you to test it with your favorite analog or digital fuzz, boost and overdrive pedals – it takes everything like a champ.

Unreal!

All of the Amalgam capture sets are absolutely incredible but the amp really stands out. This set is worth it alone for the "Everything on 10" capture which really nails the essence of a cranked amp. I also can't believe how well they captured the Octavia sound with the octave up coming through!

Great clarity; missing a little "depth"

This is a very solid capture, but compared to many other vintage Marshall offerings in the Amalgam catalog, I would recommend something like JMP100 "Rex" over this one. Since the reviews are meaningless if everything is a "5", I would thus have to consider this one a "4". Having said that, it's been noted that the Amalgam captures have a fullness or bassy nature to them relative to other captures. That works great for me, and you can usually dial out any excess bass with the BASS and DEPTH controls with no problem. If you're someone that feels the other Marshalls have TOO much bass, maybe give this one a look. It certainly nails that biting clarity of a vintage Marshall, and with some EQ adjusts to fill it out, it will certainly be a worthwhile purchase.

Incredible sound and playability

It's one of the first profiles I loaded, and - what a amazing surprise ! I played a lot of amp sims, beginning from the roland VG-8 in the nineties, but NAM with these very well-made captures from Amalgam is an amazing new instrument ! The sound itself is astonishing, totally ready for production or live. The biggest quality is attack response, the crunch for example can be very organic from soft finger attacks, to roaring with a strong pick movement the second after. And you feel the sound directly in relationship between your hands and the strings. The playability is so good I plan to use it live and enjoy the fun of playing this very responsive amp. And for the best it sounds like an extremely well setup JTM50, in its sweet spot. Free bonus, it sounds good, fun and realistic even when you play by night with headphones.

The Sound of AC????DC!

Definitely a must have from Amalgam's ever growing collection of amazing profiles. It looks like the JTM45 but it's not. The JTM50 is way tighter, focused and less spongey. The clarity and dynamics are astounding, making this the amp of choice for this iconic band. It's no mystery why they ended up here. Captured brilliantly with that Schaffer secret sauce. If you're after THAT tone, this is it!

Brilliant

I run my QC through a poweramp into a 2x12. This capture is absolutely superb.

The Best

Best profile on quad cortex hands down. Amalgam does professional recording that sounds stellar.

Magical!

This capture is incredible. The cleans are so beautiful and the drive....wow. I'm using the drive/Schaffer patch with G12-65 IR for my main live gig drive sound. It's got it all, chewy, grip,.... and the 65 IR (my fav speaker) is perfect. I dialed up the gain to 7 but it still sounds real and true. It takes pedals beautifully.... my Boss GE-7 or Analogman King of Tone for sweet lead solo push. Love it! Thanks Amalgam.

This is Marshall

These are the ultimate Marshall vintage tones. From clean to heavy crunch. This are captures are made to rock. They take pedals in the front incredibly well. I like using a Tube Screamer with the MRSH JT50 Clean BRI CAB and the MRSH JT50 Dimed BRI CAB which gives these captures an nice sonic boost. I also love the MRSH JT50 Lead FAT MIN CAB for lead playing.

A new era in digital amplification

This is definitely a tremendous step forward not only in terms of sound, but just as importantly in terms of dynamics and the fun of playing like a real amp. Unlike options like Neural DSP, Helix Native, Amplitube and so many other options, these joint tools like NAM plus Amalgamaudio's captures give you a better, different and much more realistic feel. These captures are versatile, as the package contains a good range of sounds and gains to cover a wide range of guitar tones, which is a good starting point to achieve almost any rock/metal tone. It is also appreciated that the captures have an intuitive and easy to use order, as well as including the IR's related to the amp. I look forward to seeing more screenshots of other amps, as well as on the ToneX and Quad Cortex versions. I encourage you to keep working and uploading new and quality stuff, as you are doing. Best regards and thanks for everything!

Nice extension!

For more thoughts of the JTM50 capture sets, take a look at my review of the core set. In this extended capture set, you have three more tonal variations, FAT, THIN and SCOOPED in addition to the warm, bright and balanced of the core set. There are also the bonus of of a few jumped channel captures, and quite a few captures driven with pedals. This fills out the core set very well. So if you have both sets, finding the perfect tone for any guitar is easy. When it comes to the tone options, the range from thin to fat are not to far apart, a fact that I like very much: thin is not wimpy, fat is not boomy, and all options are useful. If you need to go beond that, some EQ after the IRs will do the trick. And the range of gain, from the cleans to the most driven captures with pedals in the chain, makes this a tone machine that can do anything, really. And you can always put your own pedal in front, either physically into the interface, or a captured one before the amp capture. Twenty years ago, I only had a Marshall JMP and a couple of drive pedals. But I could do all I wanted to with that setup, or I just adapted my playing. Same goes for this: If these JTM captures were the only ITB amp option I had for recording, I could still record a full album with it, as long as I had my pedalboard and some NAM pedal captures. Sure, those who play modern metal might not be as content as me, but I think they would get by just fine. I have already used the core set to reamp some guitars in a mix, and the results are excellent. However, I am not a big fan of reamping guitars when I get to the mixing stage, as I have experienced that I get the best results with working on the tone with my choosen amp before recording, and then stick with that. So the final test is yet to come: Tracking with these sets from the start of a project. But I already know that when I do that - and it'll be very soon - I will get the best results I've ever had for Marshall tones :-D

Incredible Sounds. WOW

Purchased this Pack after buying the Complete Pack 1 and WOW. The pedals with this amp sound amazing. Has me seriously rethinking how many physical pedals I really need to keep around these days....haha

Best ITB Plexi tone ever!

After trying Kärlis' free NAM offerings on Tonehunt, and loved them all, I just had to buy this once it came out. NAM might be THE best platform for captured amp models, and then there is the extreme quality of Kärlis' work... This set of captures is pure Plexi Nirvana to me. I used to have a '78 50 watt master model JMP until about 15 years ago, so that reference is kinda old, and not quite comparable. But these captures takes me back to that period of my guitar playing life. With a strat and a fuzz, Hendrix tones are never far away (though I don't play like that...), and other tones from other Plexi hereos are easily obtainable. The range of gain levels, from clean to overdrive is just right, and if I want to go further, there is also some captures boosted with pedals. And then of course, I can slap a pedal on it, either into the interface, or a virtual one in the signal chain. And this amp seems to love them all! Fuzz, overdrive, boosters - bring 'em on! And loves humbuckers as well as single coils too. Also, the EQ settings for each gain level are nice. They don't stray too far apart, so it's great when switching guitars, The rest can be done with the EQ in the NAM-plugin, or a post IR EQ. Speaking of IRs: The IRs that follow with this is high quality. I had great tone mixing the Greenback with the G12H30 in Nadir, but I prefer a little bit more flexibility, so I will go with different cabs in Two-Notes Wall of Sound. As for the debate on real amps vs ITB amps: This set - and the captures from Kärlis on Tonehunt - is the closest I have ever come to a real amp experience ITB. Of course, it still cannot replace a real amp in a real room, without routing it through something that works like a real cabinet. But these captures DO sound and feel like playing a real amp, listening back on headphones or studio monitors. I have recorded with both miced real amps, real amps into WoS, and coded vst virtual amps. What I can say is that coded vst sounds like a toy or a shadow compared to these captures. So I think the market for coded vst will shrink. I record in my home studio, so that gives me a few restrictions. But I will not hesitate choosing Amalgam's captures insted of a real amp/WoS combination when recording from now on, as it is that good. What do I miss? Nothing, really. Oh, wait! The next part of the capture set! And one more thing: You should provide a download link for the pictures that Kärlis provide of the amps on Facebook in the NAM group. They are little pieces of art! Greetings from a (going to be) returning customer!

Amalgam Audio Captures are the ones to beat at this time!

I have owned my quad cortex for almost two years and I have purchased captures from a few other sellers — there is truly no comparison!  The quality is impeccable and the accompanying IR’s are extremely well chosen.  This pack contains great rock and hard rock tones. The crunch tones clean up nicely. I never have to play around with eq. They are never too ththin and the varying settings offer enough tonal variation to complement any guitar setup. Also they “feel” good to play  Highly recommend!

Awsome tones

After a few weeks of digging into the numerous captures of this amp, all I can say is that it really enhanced my Quad Cortex experience. It just feels more realistic than ever. The captures offer a very wide range of sounds, all worth it! In a way, it allowed me to play on an amp that I could never afford! Also, the process is made really easy with the availability and kindness of the team. Thanks for that.

MRSH JT50

The rumors are true - these captures are a revelation! There is an incomparable 3D quality to this collection that unlocks the full potential of TONEX. The bright clean capture is the new default setting for my '69 SG. Karlis not only makes a superior product - his customer service is also above and beyond. 10/10, would recommend!

Like the real one

It sits pretty well with the JT45 and the JT100. Right in between. But, I think it holds the bass and dynamic quite uniquely. I kinda of remember how it feels to play with this Marshall, having had one in my youth. Nice job. Like the real deal.

Rock Dream

I love this amp. It bleeds ROCK from low to high gain. This is the best capture I have on the QC, plain and simple. Every possible combination from the amp is included, plus more with really choice OD pedals. It is as close as it gets to having the real amp right in front of you to dial in. I found the perfect match for my P90 neck/HB bridge guitar. This is a 100% must have.

One amp does it all

Pristine cleans, mean riffs, whatever you’re up to. These captures take care of it. It really works with everything and that was what I have been looking for in an amp for a long time. Awesome work Amalgam.
